Is Drinking Water Safe Anymore?

Published by CurrentEvents under News

The Associated Press reports the results of a recent test of our nation’s drinking water and finds that small amounts of a variety of prescription drugs exist in our drinking water supplies. A vast array of pharmaceuticals — including antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones have been found in the drinking water supplies of at least 41 million Americans.

How do the drugs get into the water?

People take pills. Their bodies absorb some of the medication, but the rest of it passes through and is flushed down the toilet. The waste-water is treated before it is discharged into reservoirs, rivers or lakes. Then, some of the water is cleansed again at drinking water treatment plants and piped to consumers. But most treatments do not remove all drug residue but utility companies still insist that their water is safe.

Perhaps some new filtering devices for our drinking water supply are in order.  Any thoughts?

Does this mean i can get free Tylenol from my water? :)

I think water filtration in our country is more dangerous than we think. There is no possible way that we can filter out all of the harmful material from water. Even the chemicals used to filter have never really been analyzed for long term effects - or have they? If someone knows…please share!
