The “10-Year Later” Desi Wedding Reception

Published by SABAsearch under Houston, Humor, Weddings

We all know that Indian Desi Weddings and Receptions cost a FORTUNE!  We recently read an article about an Indian wedding in Dallas that costed over $750,000…whoa!

Nowadays in the US, however, fathers of the beautiful brides are finding, to their dismay, that spending so much money on a wedding reception is not a wise decision…especially because so many Indians and desis are getting divorced!  There goes Daddy’s $750K down the drain…and probably doesn’t leave much room for the next marriage…

Unfortunately, divorce is plaguing the Indian community more than it ever has in the past.  Second generation Indians and Desis are splitting up more than those chapped lips of yours.  So we ask, why spend so much money on an extravagent wedding celebration when you don’t even know if these two brown lovebirds are going to even have brown eggs together?  Receptions and Celebrations should be EARNED, right?

Therefore, we the SABAsearch Blog staff is proposing to install something called the “10 year Later” Wedding Reception into the Indian Desi Community.  If your daughter is about to get married, tell her that she can spend daddy’s hard earned money after 10 years for a wedding celebration under the following conditions:

  • She is still happily married to her husband
  • She still allows the parents to invite over 1000 brown people that nobody knows…because its the “desi tradition”

Your new wedding invitations would look something like this:

The “10 Year Later” Wedding Reception idea is now available for usage…enjoy!  We have lots of desi wedding coordinators standing by on the SABAsearch Blog hotline to help you get started.

Time for Marriage

Published by SABAsearch under Humor, Weddings

My family and I just came back from Dallas for my cousin’s wedding. We have a pretty large family so it’s always fun to get together for family functions. My brother is “of marriage age” but currently not married and not really in any rush to do so. But, being typical Indians, the question of marriage is the main topic. “So, when are you getting married” is a common question that was asked throughout the weekend. Since we were at a wedding, the best line was “So when are we going to do this for you”! We decided to tally how many times he would get asked that over the weekend… the number turned out the be 15! I know they have the best intentions in mind, but why is that such a prominent topic in our society? Being the younger brother, it was actually entertaining for me to watch! Do ya’ll have any horror stories on this topic to share?

Is the beer strapped in?

Published by SABAsearch under Humor, News, World

A constable made an unusual discovery after pulling over a man in Darwin, Australia.  In the back seat of his car was a 30-can case of beer strapped down by a seat belt in between two adults.  If that was not unusual enough, there was a 5 year old child sitting on the floor in the back seat!  I guess the father was more concerned for the safety of his beer than his own child!

The driver was fined 750 Australian Dollars (around 710 USD) for driving without registration, insurance, and common sense for failing to put a seat belt on a child.  The valuable lesson to be learned here is that an idea that sounds good in your head doesn’t mean that it really is - throw the beer in the trunk and put a seat belt on your kid!

Kal Penn’s Big Day: Harold and Kumar 2 Hits Theaters Today!

Published by InYoFace under Humor, Movies

Harold and Kumar 2:  Escape from Guantanamo Bay hit the theaters today.  Kal Penn must have woken up today with money bells ringing in his head…”cha ching!”.

Here is a small excerpt from latest review of Harold and Kumar 2:  Escape from Guantanamo Bay on from Cinemablend.com:

Cho and Penn continue being the best part of the series—it’s hard to imagine the first one succeeding without their charm and camaraderie. Penn even gets a chance to show off his real acting chops, in a flashback to college when Vanessa helped him break out of his nerd shell. The men make Harold and Kumar enough fun to spend time with, even when the jokes get slow and repetitive. Same goes for Neil Patrick Harris, who tries valiantly to make his on-screen persona different from the character he plays each week on How I Met Your Mother; it doesn’t really work except when Harris takes mushrooms, which is something no one on CBS primetime ever gets to do.

Harold and Kumar is a bit grosser than Judd Apatow’s usual fare, and won’t have quite the same crossover appeal as the equally stoned Knocked Up. But its fans will leave the theater happy. Provided they ever make it to the theater to begin with. Hard to smoke in a public place, you know.

Harold and Kumar is sure to be a grossed-out, in your face comedy.  We love it!  Kids, make sure you don’t take your parents to see this one (Your daddy will be beatin’ your a** before you even get through the first scene!).  Break out your fake id’s…because nobody under 17 will be allowed into this movie.

Much Props to Kal Penn for breaking every single barrier for South Asians in one movie.  Sex, Nakedness, Stealing, Smoking Pot, Going to Jail, and the list goes on!  Andfor those of you who are “disgusted” by his choices to shoot a movie like this…TOUGH LUCK!  You’ll probably be sitting at home by yourself tonight while all of your friends are at the movies.  Don’t be a loner…go see the movie!

Peace!

Microsoft and Yahoo - Internet Crush or Real Love?

Published by SABAsearch under Humor, Technology

So here is the romantic story of Microsoft and Yahoo as it stands today:

Microsoft was walking through the hallway of Internet High, when all of a sudden, it sees Yahoo through the corner of its eye.  Yahoo was looking mighty fine that day, especially because rumor had it that she was becoming more “easy” to get.  When Microsoft walked by Yahoo, Yahoo gave Microsoft a nice little wink to show Microsoft that she was interested.

A week goes by, and no word from Microsoft.  Not even a phone call!  Yahoo was upset, when finally, Microsoft (Steve Ballmer) called up Yahoo and asked her out on a date.  Yahoo obliged.

Microsoft took Yahoo to McDonalds, where Yahoo was severely dissappointed.  “You takin me to this cheap ole’ place!  I deserve some better lovin from you!” said Yahoo.  Needless to say, the date wasn’t as nice as Microsoft had expected.  After the date, Microsoft had this to say, “She ain’t worth more than Mickey D’s meal…don’t worry, she’ll be back!”.

The next week:  Microsft notices that other jocks are trying to hit on Yahoo in the school hallway.  TimeWarner, Google, and other big Internet players are all eyeing Yahoo with the interest to take her on a date and score.  Yahoo doesn’t seem interested, as her mind is still set on Microsoft.  Yahoo goes to Microsoft and tells him, “You can have me, but you’ll have to treat me better, and wine and dine me next time.  Otherwise, you’re not gettin’ any of my lumps.”  Microsoft, as cocky as he is, looks her up and down and says, “I don’t need you woman!  I’m not desparate!  I got plenty of Search Engines that wanna get some Microsoft lovin!”

So that’s where we stand today.  Microsoft is trying to woo Yahoo with their mind games and Yahoo is playing hard to get.  Is this just another internet crush, or will this turn into true love? Vote Below!

Typical Desis!

Published by HumorMe under Humor

Thanks to Joyce for passing this along.  Enjoy!

A Patel family in Gujarat was puzzled when the coffin of their dead mother arrived from the US. It was sent by one of their daughters. The dead body was very tightly squeezed inside the coffin, with no space to spare. When they opened the lid, they found a letter on top addressed to her brothers and sisters:
Dear Chandrakantbhai, Arvindbhai, Mohan and Varsha:
I am sending Ba’s body to you, since it was her last wish that she be cremated in the compound of our ancestral home in Gujarat. Sorry, I could not come along as all of my paid leave is consumed.
You will find inside the coffin, under Ba’s body, 12 cans of cheese, 10 packets of Toblerone chocolates and 8 packets of Badam. Please divide these among all of you. On Ba’s feet you will find a new pair of Reebok shoes (size 10) for Mohan. There are also 2 pairs of shoes for Radha’s and Lakshmi’s sons. Hope the sizes are correct.
Ba is wearing 6 American T-shirts. The large size is for Mohan. Just distribute the rest among yourselves. The 2 new Jeans that Ba’s is wearing are for the boys. The Swiss watch that Reema wanted is on Ba’s left wrist.
Shanta masi, Ba is wearing the necklace, earrings and ring that you asked for. Please take them off her.The 6 white cotton socks that Ba is wearing must be divided among my nephews. Please distribute all these fairly.
Love,
Smita Patel
P.S.: If you need anything else please let me know soon, Bapuji is also not feeling too well nowadays.
