Indian Thriller

Published by SABAsearch under Videos

The Thriller video by Michael Jackson is arguably the greatest music video of all time.  The original video was created in 1983 and was voted as the “most successful music video” by the Guiness Book of World Records in 1996.  We all know that MJ is a mega superstar, and it is no surprise that people have impersonated him over the years, but this one takes the cake.  This is an older video, but one of the best remakes we have ever seen.  If you have not seen this before, we can almost guarantee that you will have this song in your head all day!  Check out the Indian version of Thriller and then check out the real Thriller, just for old time’s sake.

Aishwarya Girls School

Published by SABAsearch under News

Aishwarya Girls SchoolAmitabh Bachchan has bought 70,000 square feet of farmland in Daulatpur village in Barabanki (near Lucknow).  He is planning on building an all girls school for higher secondary students.  The school is named after Bachchan’s new daughter-in-law, Aishwarya Rai.

People are wondering why Amitabh Bachchan chose this area for the school, since he has no obvious relation to this place.  He has said that there are no other intentions involved other than providing an educational institution to an area which desperately needs it.  The nearest girls’ school is close to 45 kilometers (28 miles) away.

Amitabh Bachchan layed the foundation stone on January 27, 2008 and the official name of the school is Shrimati Aishwarya Bachchan Kanya Mahavidyalaya.  People traveled from all over the area to witness the event.  The crowd was overflowing the allotted area and into neighboring fields.  Aishwarya expressed that she has always wanted to build a school for girls, but never wanted to name it after herself.  She said that there were elders in the family who should have the honor, but Bachchan convinced her that it was a gift for their daughter-in-law.

Congratulations to the Bachchan family for creating this wonderful opportunity for the girls of Daulatpur.  Hopefully many more will follow their lead.

World’s Most Expensive House

Published by SABAsearch under Architecture

We are going from the world’s cheapest car to the world’s most expensive house.  And yes, you guessed it, it is in India.  The lucky owner is India’s richest man, Mr. Mukesh Ambani.  Ambani is the chairman of Reliance Industries.  Reliance Industries is a conglomerate dealing in the energy and materials industries and have annual revenues in excess of $27 billion.

So we have established that he is rich.  Now let’s talk about his house.  The house is estimated to cost $1 billion and is currently under construction in Mumbai.  Here are some of the key features:

  • Named Antilia
  • Inspired by the Hanging Gardens of Babylon
  • 60 stories tall - only 27 livable
  • 6 floors will be for parking - 168 parking spots total
  • Movie theater for up to 50 people
  • Health club and pool
  • Three helipads on the roof
  • Several levels of gardens and terraces

If you think Ambani has an extremely large family, then guess again.  The people actually living in the house will be Ambani, his wife, three children, and his mother.  On top of that, a staff of 600 people is required to take care of this place.

Check out the picture and video of Antilia below.

World’s Cheapest Car

Published by SABAsearch under Technology

India has the right to claim that they now have the world’s cheapest car.  Tata Motors has recently introduced the Tata Nano which has a price tag of $2,500 USD (1 lakh Rupees).  The basic car can accommodate 5 people (supposedly), has no radio or air conditioning, and has only one wiper.  If you want air conditioning (which is probably a must in India), you will have to upgrade to the deluxe model.  We must give credit where credit is due and applaud Tata for being able to produce a car for such a low price.

Even though this seems to be a great achievement, it has caused a lot of controversy.  There are two sides to this argument.

One side thinks that:

  • This accomplishment gives less fortunate people the opportunity to be able to purchase a car.
  • The Tata Nano allows for another means of transportation, which is a necessity in everyday life.

The other side thinks that:

  • India’s roads are already very crowded and introducing this car will cause more congestion.
  • The pollution in India is high and having more cars on the road means that there will be increased pollution.
  • Having a car for this kind of price must mean that safety standards were compromised.

At this time, the Tata Nano will only be sold in India, but Tata says that eventually they may decide to export it.  Competitors are already thinking about how to contend with the Nano.  Will America soon have something similar?

The video clip below is the unveiling of the Tata Nano from last week.  We would like to hear your perspective on this topic, so please feel free to leave comments.

Super Bowl XLII

Published by SABAsearch under Sports

Super Bowl XLII

The teams to play in Super Bowl XLII (42) have been set.  The Patriots defeated the San Diego Chargers in the AFC championship game with a score of 21 to 12 and advance to the Super Bowl for the fourth time this decade.  New England continues their perfect season and now have 18 wins and 0 (that’s right, zero) losses.

The NFC championship, on the other hand, proved to have a surprising ending and gave fans a great game to watch.  The New York Giants beat the favored Green Bay Packers 23 to 20.  The 47-yard winning field goal was kicked by Lawrence Tynes in overtime to upset the Packers.  The third time was the charm for Tynes who actually missed two field goals in regulation that could have sealed the game for the Giants.

As much as everyone wanted to see the Favre vs. Brady match up in the Super Bowl, they are going to get the Manning (Eli, of course) vs. Brady match up.  There is no doubt that the Patriots are going to be favored, but hopefully the Giants will put up a good fight and make it a good game.  If not, we always have the commercials and half-time show to look forward to.
